PATROL offers a clear top-down view of an entire computing environment. It is used to automate monitoring and management of applications, databases, and underlying technologies across heterogeneous, multi-tier environments. PATROL helps administrators analyze and control these components, enhancing performance and availability.

PATROL is composed of three parts. The first is an optional graphical-based console used to view the network and control the monitoring and management functions on the servers. Intelligent Autonomous Agents, the second part of PATROL, reside on servers and detect and diagnose system events based on threshold limits. Third, Knowledge Modules provide libraries of product-specific information allowing agents to automatically ascertain the operating environment and the installed products. Once the monitoring begins, PATROL can automatically initiate corrective actions or alert the administrator of a problem. Highly scalable, PATROL permits the centralized monitoring of thousands of servers.

BMC Software has developed a Knowledge Module specifically for Compaq Insight Management Agent data. This Knowledge Module examines the contents of numerous specific systems status parameters including CPU performance, disk utilization, network activity, and system fault status.When thresholds are exceeded, alert messages are sent to either the PATROL console or the enterprise console of your choice. In certain cases, many corrective actions may be automatically taken at the managed node.

BMC Software is working closely with numerous customers to determine which additional Compaq Insight Manager parameters the PATROL Knowledge Module should monitor. An additional capability of the Knowledge Modules is that they can be easily customized to meet unique requirements.

Compaq has led the industry in making servers and desktops easy to manage. Compaq Insight Manager is an intelligent management tool that constantly monitors and analyzes critical information provided by Compaq Insight Management Agents. The agents provide detailed performance, configuration, and fault management for a large number of Compaq systems on your network. In fact, they monitor more than 1,000 server and desktop parameters. Because they are SNMP-based, the agents integrate readily into leading systems management applications.

PATROL monitors and manages your key Compaq server parameters, helping you to gain more control over your applications and increase availability.

Using the combination of PATROL Knowledge Modules and Compaq Insight Management Agent data, you'll be able to proactively monitor and control key elements in your Compaq environment and beyond, including the hardware, operating systems, applications, and database software.
